Our School
Northwoods Academy is the Bibb County School District's early childhood learning center which opened in August 2009. It was built to support the learning of young children between the ages of three and four years old in both general and special education programs provided in a child-friendly environment.
Built on the site of the former T. D. Tinsley Elementary School, construction was funded by the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST). The school was designed to be conducive to the activities and to meet the needs of our youngest students with input from teachers, district administration, state officials, parents, and community members.
Northwoods Academy is the hub for Bibb County's early childhood activities and we provide a rich curriculum which is ideal for all children. The path to graduation and post-secondary success does not begin in high school; it begins at birth, and we want to place our students on a path to success. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to all students successfully beginning their school experience.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, "the years before a child reaches kindergarten are among the most critical in his or her life to influence learning." We at Northwoods Academy agree and strive each day to have a positive and long-lasting impact in the lives of the children we serve each day.
There are currently nine Georgia Pre-K classes, two Kindergarten classes and classes for students with special needs at Northwoods Academy. All classes are standards based and are designed to enhance a young child's experiences in language and literacy development, mathematics, science, social studies, creativity, social and emotional development, and health and physical development.
